In a change from Dragonboating, five OPfL members went to Dorney Lake in August to take part in the ‘Outriggers for Life’ exhibition event at the 2022 World Va’a Championships. This was an incredible experience for all of us (with 3 of us having never been in an outrigger before). We teamed up with members from the London based Wave Walkers to form a composite team ‘Mana Wahine’. Under the expert guidance of ‘uncle’ (a Hawaiian elder) we had two fantastic races and came second both times. It was great fun!
